  What is a lay off?

  Your employer can ask you to stay at home or take unpaid leave if there’s not enough work for you.

  Can the lay off period be shortened or extended?

  Yes. As a business we will be keeping a close eye on developments and will keep you updated accordingly.

  How long do you anticipate this lasting?

  We cannot say at this time but we do hope that things will become clearer over the next few weeks.

  What pay will I receive?

  You’re entitled to guaranteed pay during lay off. The maximum you can get is £29 a day for 5 days in any 3-month period - so a maximum of £145

  If you work part-time, your entitlement is worked out proportionally.

  Will my service be broken?

  You will get continuous service so this will not affect the length of time you have been employed by the company.

  Will I accrue holiday while I am laid off?

  Yes, you will accrue holiday as normal

  What if I have holiday already booked in Fourth?

  This will go ahead as normal

  Can I work elsewhere during the lay off period?

  Yes, but please follow the following:

  · get your employer’s agreement

  · make sure you’re not working for a competitor

  · make sure you’re available for your original job once the lay-off
