    ELO Decay on Feb 26th 2010

    Hi all,

    Between ~10 AM GMT and 4 PM GMT players lost “Experience“ and “Activity” in the PvP rankings 72 times faster than normal. This affected all players. The issue has been resolved, but the “Experience” and “Activity” values are not reset to their initial values but will recover after a few matches played.
    BattleForge’s rating system consists of 3 values (displayed in the tooltip on the arrow at the right side of the player banner in the rankings).
    The most important value is the Elo score. It is only manipulated depending on the result of a match and the incoming Elo scores of both players. This value and its changes were NOT affected by today’s bug.
    The “Activity” and “Experience” values reflect how active a player is and from together with the Elo score the overall rating. This rating is used to determine the position in the rankings. Due to today’s bug the “Activity” and “Experience” values dropped too fast.
    We decided not to restore the values from prior to the issue because:

    * The Elo values that form the core of the players rating were unaffected
    * To activate the backups and restore the old values would result in several hours of game results lost
    * After just a few matches the “Activity” and “Experience” values will have recovered

    As a result the impact of the bug is less if we keep the current values than if we restored the old values.
    We are sorry and have taken measures to prevent this from happening again in the future.
