  It has been reported that recent factory firmware includes a new bootloader revision which disables the WAN port at boot (likely to deal with switch leakage). A fix has been implemented in trunk between r32942 - r32944, while 45-46 fixes the leakage. Below is the version of the new bootloader (which disables the wan port) of a version 1.8 hardware model (bought in august 2012).
